Although this time period saw a lot of progress for many different social groups, the progress was far from perfect. In fact, many groups faced a lot of problems when it came to exercising their rights and demanding equality.

An example of this was the opposition that women faced when it came to universal suffrage. While there was a strong movement of feminists who demanded the vote, there was also a strong backlash on the part of the rest of society to prevent them from achieving their goals.

Another example was that of African Americans. While African Americans were technically equal to white people according to the law, this equality was not achieved during this time period due to barriers such as the passage of Jim Crow laws, racism and segregation.

Decades of migration from the countryside to the cities have led to a large contingent of workers already earning the highest urban wages.

Migration would have made the rural labor market tighter, and the remaining rural workers would already have greater bargaining power to ask for higher wages.

The large public investments in backward infrastructure, as well as new social security and cash transfer programs.
