This version of Grendel is a more vicious one than the version in John Gardner's novel. We know this because of the type of language that this version uses. In this passage, we see that the speaker is talking about Grendel with horror. He tells us that Grendel is horrendous through negative words such as "gruesome," "without fear," "covered in death," "gorged," "bloodied," "raw corpse" and "cruel frenzy."
