Number of bags with  $\frac{3}{8}$ pound, which can be poured from $2\frac{1}{4}$ pounds of trail mix

= Total amount of trail mix $\div$ Amount of trail mix in each bag

= $\frac{9}{4} \div \frac{3}{8}$

= $\frac{9}{4} \times \frac{8}{3}$

= 6 bags

Number of bags taken on a hiking trip = $\frac{2}{3}$ of bags

= $\frac{2}{3} \times 6$

= 4 bags

Now, number of bags of trail mix which are left = 6-4 = 2 bags.

Therefore, 2 bags are left.
