Answer:

Because white people generally ignore or are unaware of the real situation of African Americans.

Explanation:

When the author uses the expression "white world" he is referring to people with white skin. Moreover, when the author says that the white world is very ignorant and innocent, he is referring to the indifference white people have to the struggles and suffering that black people have been facing for centuries.

B. Fear

John was happy that he might meet Carolyn again after three years..but moving on further in to the short story..we notice that she accused him of being insensitive, even thoughtless! So, putting ourselves in his shoes...it's logical that he would feel just a bit of fear. How would she react? Would she view John the same, insensitive and thoughtless?

These are just my thoughts, but I know the answer is B.

Answer:

The LEAST effective substitution for the word ’calm’ in the sentence labeled (2) is "quiet"

Explanation:

The least effective substitution from the given options is quiet, due to its simple meaning about the intention of the full sentence "His calm performances encouraged the Marines to adopt seven other wild horses." this sentence talks about the general behavior of the horse and quiet mostly refers to the noise that is produced, while the other has a wider use depending on the context.
