Periodically throughout recorded history, puzzling instances of psychiatric and neurologic symptoms have presented en mass<span>: outbursts of thrashing and screaming, or je rky spasms and abrupt vocal tics affecting a group of individuals at once and often attributed to causes like possession, witchcraft, and malingering. Such occurrences of so-called "mass hysteria" continue to confound the medical community, but growing experience has improved the understanding and approach to these seemingly contagious psychogenic events. </span>

History often repeats itself. This means that, because people throughout time are generally similar, and have the same dreams, goals and ways of thinking, they often react in similar ways to similar situations.

In the case of the Salem Witch trials, people were convinced that the girls and women involved were victims of witchcraft, and that the best way of dealing with them was to burn them alive. This was a result of religious fanaticism and prejudice towards those who are different.

Another example of mass hysteria was the persecution of communists during the McCarthy era. During these years, people were similarly obsessed with an ideological position: that communism was bad for the nation. Therefore, they persecuted those who they believed exhibited behaviour that was not American or patriotic.

Finally, an older example would be the persecution of Jewish people during the years of the Black Death.  As people were unaware of the causes of the disease, they were looking for someone to blame for it. They used their already preconceived bias against Jews in order to blame them and persecute them, regardless of the lack of evidence against them.

OverLord2011 [107]

Answer: It will leave the next day.

Explanation:

In this poem by Edgar Allan Poe, the speaker deals with a loss of his lover, when he is visited by a strange guest - a raven that repeats the same word - <em>"nevermore."</em>

The raven lands on a bust of Pallas, and, when the narrator asks him about his name, the raven only utters:<em> "nevermore."</em> The narrator then assumes that the raven will leave him just like his friends did:

<em>"</em><em>On the morrow he will leave me</em><em>, as my Hopes have flown before.”</em>

<em>On the morrow</em> is an Old English expression that has a meaning<em> "the next day.</em>" The correct answer is, thus, that the speaker says that the raven will leave the next day.
