They would try to go and get things they weren't supposed to and some people even tried to murder out in the streets. The people who did survive were mentally scarred. As for the US, it just showed that this country could fight back to any possible enemy they had and that they would not go down without a fight. Even though many lives were lost it made the country come close together.
