Benjamin Franklin made this at the time of the revolutionary war. He was attempting to make the colonies unite, as he believed that seperate no colony could stand against britain. This cartoon was specifically made to make you think a slit snake is a dead snake, because the unjoined colonies would have died had they not joined together.
