Studying history is extremely important to our understanding of politics and the social and economical problems of today because we have a better understanding of the decisions that were made in the past and what their specific affects were. Due to this, we can decide whether it would be appropriate to make a similar decision by today's standards or whether that decision didn't work out and shouldn't be considered.
Understanding how mankind has messed up or succeeded in those ways, in the past, can help us make future decisions. Someone once told me “It’s good to learn from your mistakes but it’s better to learn from others”
