It is said that the inlet was contaminated with radioactive water in 1978, when a submarine accidentally released the radioactive water into Puget Sounds.

Another reason for its buildup of pollution is through the "storm water's run-off." When a storm comes, it hits infrastructure's roofs and other surfaces or pollutants. The debris are carried into the drains by rain and are then drained further into Puget Sound.

The toxic chemicals that are carried primarily comes from the roofing materials or human's everyday products.
