How is the title marriage is a private affair ironic

English
1 answer:
anyanavicka [17]3 years ago
6 0
Marriage is a formal bond between two people, who promised to love and have a relationship with each other to the exclusion of others. An"affair" in this context is a relationship between two people by definition outside of wedlock, and is often the term applied when someone is breaking their marriage vows and having a relationship with a third party i.e having an "affair". Therefore the author is being ironic by calling "marriage a private affair" as it is not an " affair " in the above context at all, and using the other sense of the word affair justified by the word private.

Hope that helps :)

Korolek [52]
Children already have to attend school for seven long hours each day, only having a two day break and an occasional holiday in between. In addition to the long school days, most students take home overwhelming amounts of homework that can take up many hours in itself. Summer vacation is something children can look forward to as a great opportunity to relax and not worry about classwork or homework. In conclusion, school should not continue through the summer months as students value this break.
