y=(2x)+5-----i

their difference is 13

y-x=13-------ii

substituting for y in ii

2x+5-x=13

collecting like terms

2x-x=13-5

x=8

recall ii and substitute for x

y-x=13

y-8=13

therefore

y=13+8

=21
