I would pick B out of that lot, but the truth is that none of them are really very good.

There is some visualization in B. You know how many different kinds of bread there is. You know there's a roast and a great stew.  It's like a list of what's there and it is possible to picture it, but the different loaves leads one to wonder what kind and how big and what kind of flower. The stew isn't much help either, just that is big. There is too much packed into this sentence to make it truly visual.

C isn't really a choice. What did he hear and what did he smell. There should be some detail that tells us something. At least we know there are three loaves in B.

The first one is not a sentence. It's a fragment. On a test I wouldn't mark you incorrect if you chose none of the above. I think you could easily justify that.
