In 1-2 paragraphs explain Slavery, must reference how, when, and where slavery began in The US. How long did it last, how did sl
Marta_Voda [28]

Answer:

Slavery was so profitable, it sprouted more millionaires per capita in the Mississippi River valley than anywhere in the nation. With cash crops of tobacco, cotton and sugar cane, America's southern states became the economic engine of the burgeoning nation. Their fuel of choice? Human slavery. Under the law, an enslaved person was treated as property and could be bought, sold, or given away. Slavery lasted in about half of U.S. states until 1865. As an economic system, slavery was largely replaced by sharecropping and convict leasing.

Slavery had been practiced in British America from early colonial days, and was legal in all thirteen colonies at the time those colonies formed the United States. Under the law, an enslaved person was treated as property and could be bought, sold, or given away. Slavery lasted in about half of U.S. states until 1865.The first 19 or so Africans to reach the British colonies arrived in Point Comfort, Virginia, near Jamestown, in 1619, brought by British privateers who had seized them from a captured Portuguese slave ship. Slaves were usually baptized in Africa before embarking.

Just one month after writing this letter, Lincoln issued his preliminary Emancipation Proclamation, which announced that at the beginning of 1863, he would use his war powers to free all slaves in states still in rebellion as they came under Union control.

What are some of the advantages and disadvantages of governmental organizations?
MAXImum [283]

Answer:

Advantages

They have the ability to experiment freely with innovative approaches and, if necessary, to take risks.

They are flexible in adapting to local situations and responding to local needs and therefore able to develop integrated projects, as well as sectoral projects.

They enjoygood rapport with people and can render micro-assistance to very poor peope as they can identify those who are most in need and tailor assistance to their needs.

They have the ability to communicate at all levels, from the neighbourhood to the top levels of government.

They are able to recruit both experts and highly motivated staff with fewer restrictions than the government.

Disadvantages

Paternalistic attitudes restrict the degree of participation in programme/project design.

Restricted/constrained ways of apporach to a problem or area.

Redued replicability of an idea, due to non-representativeness of the project or selected area, relatively small project coverage, dependence on outside financial resources, etc.

"Territorial possessiveness" of an area or project reduces cooperation between agencies, seen as threatening or competitive.
