Mostly because of the great economical crisis that struck Indonesia during the last years of Suharto's rule.

Explanation:

  • This economical crisis was actually one of the main reasons why Suharto was removed, although during his time Indonesia had economical revival.
  • That slower pace actually has changed today, and Indonesia is one of the fastest growing economies in the world.
  • And of the reasons for that actually is because they used Chinese method.
