International volunteers fought on the side of the Republicans in the Spanish Civil War. The fight was because of the economic difficulties at that time.
EXPLANATION
In the 1920s Spain came under the leadership of dictator Miguel Primo de Rivera. Spain experienced economic difficulties in those days so that the polarization became very massive. In the early 1930s labor unrest worsened the situation. The climax in the February 16, 1936 election led to the Popular Popular Front which was later responded by the Extreme Right on July 1936 with a coup attempt. This effort then became a trigger for civil war.
Important actors in this coup;
• Nationalist: General Francisco Franco supported Mussolini Italy and Nazi Germany
• Republicans: Francisco Largo Caballero and Juan Negrin who received assistance from the Soviet Union and the International Brigade (international volunteers from Europe and North America.
When the first military coup failed to control the entire nation, civil war was inevitable. They fought very brutally and attacked each other. On 18 November 1938 the Republicans invasion ended at the Ebro River. A few months later, precisely on March 28, 1939, around 200,000 Nationalist troops managed to enter Madrid without resistance. The Republican government surrendered. General Franco then dictatorial rule until the end of his life on November 20, 1975.
