Hello!

6x^2 + 13x + 6 has coefficients a = 6, b = 13 and c = 6. The discriminant,

b^2 - 4ac, is therefore 13^2 - 4(6)(6) = 169 - 144 = 25.

Because the discriminant is positive, we have two unequal, real roots. They are:

-13 plus or minus √25

x = -----------------------------------

2(6)

-13 plus or minus 5

= --------------------------------

12

and these come out to -8/12 and -18/12, reductable to -2/3 and -3/2. I'd prefer to state "two real, rational, distinct roots," but "double root" is OK.

+4.31. Let a(s) be a unit speed curve with kt = 0. Prove there is a curve
yanalaym [24]

Answer:

It is proved

Step-by-step explanation:

A curve immersed in the three-dimensional sphere is said to be a Bertrand curve if there exists another curve and a one-to-one correspondence between and such that both curves have common principal normal geodesics at corresponding points.

See attachment for the step by step solution of the given problem.

A cable 19 m long runs from the top of a utility pole to a point on the ground 10 m from the base of the pole. How tall is the u
Leviafan [203]

Answer:

16.2 m

Step-by-step explanation:

First, we can draw a picture. The cable goes from the top of the pole to the ground (with the pole on the right in my drawing), and the point on the ground is 10 m away from the base of the pole. This forms a right triangle, with the right angle being between the 10 m distance and the pole itself. We can then apply the Pythagorean Theorem, so

a²+b²=c², with c being the side opposite the right angle (the cable), getting us

10²+(length of pole)² = 19²

19²-10²=(length of pole)²

= 261

square root both sides to isolate the length of the pole

length of pole ≈ 16.2 m
