I've already got the answers to parts a and b, I just need help with c. the volume is 3.5. A rectangular prism has dimensions of
1/2, 2, and 7/2 inches. (a) Determine the edge length of the largest unit cube that you could use to pack the prism. Explain. (b) What is the volume of the prism? Explain. (c) How many cubes with the edge length from part (a) will fit into the prism? Explain.
The answer to part a should by 1/2 inch because the cube must fit within the smallest dimension of the rectangular prism. If the cube were larger, it would not fit inside the 1/2 inch length.
1. Four 1/2 inch cubes would add up to the 2 inch side of the rectangular prism.
2 ÷ 1/2 = 4
2. Seven 1/2 inch cubes would add up to the 7/2 inch side of the rectangular prism.
7/2 ÷ 1/2 = 7
This means that four rows of seven 1/2 inch cubes can fit within the rectangular prism.
