Before the signing of the Declaration of Independence, there were revolts and rebellions against the British all throughout Colonial America. The people of Boston likely resented the British for the same reasons that the war started, because of heavy tax and no representation in British government. There was also the Boston Massacre, where British soldiers opened fire on colonists and killed (I believe) 5, after people were throwing rocks at them.
