The heavier the spacecraft, the harder it is to launch. And fuel is heavy. So it was critical to pinpoint the fuel needed, add a

cushion, then take no more than necessary. But now, because the landing was taking far longer than planned, the fuel was almost gone. Mission Control wanted Neil to take as much time as he needed and fly the LM as near empty as possible only because they wanted him to make the landing. But if he ran out of fuel above the surface, in all likelihood the LM would crash onto the moon. So they were trying to time it to the last possible second before calling an abort—calling off the landing.
Which detail from the excerpt identifies a solution?

A: they were trying to time it to the last possible second

B: they wanted him to make the landing

C: the fuel was almost gone

D: And fuel is heavy

Answer:

A: They were trying to time it to the last possible second

Explanation:

A is the only solution presented in the excerpt. B is the distractor answer. The key word is wanted. It's what they want it's not how they're solving the problem.

When interpreting poetry, _____ reveal(s) explicit meaning and _____ reveal(s) implied meaning.
jolli1 [7]
Explicit meaning means meaning that originates only from the meaning of the phrase and not other contextual features and it also has the connotations of being concrete and realistic. On the other hand, implied meaning makes us think of similes and other non-pragmatic factors. The only pair that suits the above descriptions is: direct statements / imagery. This question is along the dilemma of imagery and direct statements; the other 2 choices have other impacts on literary forms.

Which identifies a sentence with a misplaced adjective phrase?
musickatia [10]

Answer:

A sentence with a misplaced adjective phrase is - The computer in the car's trunk needs repair.

Explanation:

Misplaced adjectives or modifiers are the words or phrases that are placed incorrectly. Because of such misplaced modifiers, the sentence sounds quite incorrect, and can also cause a confusion.

The sentence, ‘The computer in the car's trunk needs repair’ is a misplaced adjective. Here the writer should have made use of prepositional clause and the sentence should have been, ‘ The computer needs repair which is in the trunk of the car.’ It could also be, ‘The computer in the trunk of the car needs repair.’
