The know nothing party of the late 19th century was a political faction that consisted of nativists. Nativists are individuals who think that the wants and needs of native citizens should take priority over those of immigrants. This anti-immigrant stance is rooted in fear that immigrants would take jobs or try to change American culture. This group used violence to scare immigrants. When confronted about their actions, they would say they “know nothing .”
