The Glorious and French revolutions established long-lasting demotratic traditions.

Glorious Revolution: The Glorious Revolution of 1688 is considered by some as being one of the most important events in the long evolution of the respective powers of Parliament and the Crown in England. With the passage of the Bill of Rights, it stamped out once and for all any possibility of a Catholic monarchy, and ended moves towards absolute monarchy in the British kingdoms by circumscribing the monarch's powers. These powers were greatly restricted; he or she could no longer suspend laws, levy taxes, make royal appointments, or maintain a standing army during peacetime without Parliament's permission – to this day the Army is known as the "British Army" not the "Royal Army" as it is, in some sense, Parliament's Army and not that of the King. (This is, however, a complex issue, as the Crown remains the source of all executive authority in the British army, with legal implications for unlawful orders etc.). Since 1689, government under a system of constitutional monarchy in England, and later the United Kingdom, has been uninterrupted. Since then, Parliament's power has steadily increased while the Crown's has steadily declined.

French Revolution: The modern era has unfolded in the shadow of the French Revolution. Almost all future revolutionary movements looked back to the Revolution as their predecessor. Its central phrases and cultural symbols, such as La Marseillaise and Liberté, fraternité, égalité, ou la mort, became the clarion call for other major upheavals in modern history, including the Russian Revolution over a century later.

The values and institutions of the Revolution dominate French politics to this day. The Revolution resulted in the suppression of the feudal system, emancipation of the individual, a greater division of landed property, abolition of the privileges of noble birth, and nominal establishment of equality among men. The French Revolution differed from other revolutions in being not only national, for it intended to benefit all humanity.

Globally, the Revolution accelerated the rise of republics and democracies. It became the focal point for the development of all modern political ideologies, leading to the spread of liberalism, radicalism, nationalism, and secularism, among many others. The Revolution also witnessed the birth of total war by organising the resources of France and the lives of its citizens towards the objective of military conquest. Some of its central documents, such as the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen, continued to inspire movements for abolitionism and universal suffrage in the next century.

How much did captain hook have to pay for his earrings 8th grade worksheet?
ziro4ka [17]
The correct answer is A buck an ear.

This is supposed to be the amount of money and things he gave for it like a dollar and an ear that was pierced, but it is a pun because he's a pirate and when read it sounds like buccaneer which is related to pirates and sea journeys, so it's a funny pun.

What is jihad?
aliina [53]
It's C. It is the Islamic word for an internal struggle against evil or a physical struggle with non-Muslims.

The word "jihad" comes from the arabic language and it means "to strive or struggle". We apply this word to striving to be a better person or to struggle with our faith and striving to make it stronger. Back in time, during the time of Muhammed (peace be upon him), Jihad meant the same thing, but it also applied to defending their nation from the attacks of the other Arab clans (one of which is known as the Quraysh). Hence "struggling and striving" to defend their nation.

The way some radical "muslim" terrorists use it today is not right at all. That's not what Islam teaches, and those terrorists are not really considered Muslims by other Muslims and Muslim scholars. We disown those people as they are putting our religion in a bad light.

Also, on a side note, please don't always just blindly listen and believe what the media says. Please do research on your own and you will find that how the media portrays Islam is not true. It is actually a very peaceful religion. In the Quran (the holy book of Islam) a comparison is made that says if you were to unjustly kill one person, it is as if you have killed all of humanity (the level of sin you receive for it) and if you save the life a single person it is as if you have saved all of humanity (the level of reward and blessings you get for it).

Thanks for reading this. I'm glad I got to answer this question for you. Good luck and have a beautiful day!
