Livestock was brought by the Spanish in Texas during their early entradas or settlement tries. The animals included major livestock like swine, goats, sheep, burros, horses, and mules. The Franciscans were the chief stock raisers of the province during the 18th century. They sensibly tended their seed stock, and herds grew rapidly. Their breeding of animal’s activity was placed in San Antonio de Bexar to La Bahia.

Both ministers and private breeders also raised sheep and goats for wool and mutton. Herds of such Ganado menor improved quickly due to the Spanish tradition of breeding every twice a year
