Differences: (obviously) Celebrities aren't gods. Well, at least I hope they aren't.

Similarities: Both are assumed to be doing us good. Gods apparently gave us life, they control things like the water and fire and air. Celebrities entertain us, keep us from being bored and can sometimes help us through hard times.
