Answer:

John was saying by his words that he thought of her sometimes but he wouldn't dare try to go after her again. His tone was kind of rude and I say this because he literally said "I'll cut off my hand."

Abigail was saying for them not to speak another word about anything or she would pretty much kill them with a knife in the dead of night.  Her tone wasn't nearly as nice as John meant his. The words used to say this was "I will come to you in the black of some terrible night and I will bring a pointy reckoning that will shudder you."
