Although 97% of climate scientists believe that climate change is taking place and that greenhouse gas emissions are the key cause, so far the political will has not been strong enough to implement a major policy shift away from fossil fuels and towards renewable forms of energy. Perhaps more severe weather events, such as droughts, wildfires, heat waves and floods, will persuade the public to place more pressure on politicians to take immediate steps to minimize carbon emissions and to tackle this problem before it happens.
