There were many reasons. One being that it was winter and it was harder to gather things and keep spirits up when everyone was running low on food. It was also in bad weather.

This is where the Declaration Of Independence was written, and Published.  This summarizes when The 13 Colonies wanted to declare war so we can separate from Great Britain.  So, us as Americans wanted to use The Declaration of Independence saying (in my own words) if you do not let us become our own Union as a country, we will fight for it.  So The People of the United States signed that declaration of independence so it can go to King George of Great Britain.
