Vanitas, in the visual arts, are representations, usually pictorial, that symbolically seek to express the brevity of life. We can thus say that Vanitas's paintings are conceptually allegorical works in the form of still life (paintings, where the main motive are flowers, fruits and / or objects).
The Latin word <em>vanitas</em> can be translated as vanity, something ephemeral and seductive. This type of painting, therefore, seeks to be a reason for reflection on the fleetingness of human existence.
