Most Confucian officials thought China gained little trade. They also thought that China benefited little from contact with foreigners. These officials were far move concerned with threats of invasion from Central Asia. So the Ming government ended the maritime voyages.

Probably 1, however I can see why that would be a tiny bit confusing.

Building walls protects from incoming invaders(at least back in the day), creating armies, makes a force to go and fight to protect the people, and what was the other one? Oh yea, moving to a safer place.

Doing that would mean making invasions less likely, and making your people feel and be safer.

I think it was because Children would listen better, and would have no control over what they were doing int he factory, while men may have put up a fight, and would refuse to listen. Also Children were more easily bribed, and brainwashed than adults
