When writing a number in scientific notation we have to think about the following. Any number in scientific notation is written the following way.

$a \times 10 {}^{b}$

With a representing any number between 1 and 10 and b representing an integer. Therefore:

$44.5 = 4.45 \times {10}^{1}$

Let's look through all of the ten possible digits in that place,
and see what we can tell:
