Swing started in 1920's, but the era started in 1935 and ended in 1945's. Swing was the most popular period for jazz.  Ragtime started is a musical genre that enjoyed its peak popularity between 1895 and 1918. music characterized by a syncopated melodic line and regularly accented accompaniment, evolved by black American musicians in the 1890's and played especially on the piano. The blues originated by African Americans in the Deep South of the United States around the end of the 19th century. (Sorry i don't know anything about Dixieland)
