I believe the answer is: Our self concept develops from interaction with others.

From interraction with others, we could examine the type of view, belief, and identity that other people have. From that, we could start to formulate our own personal view, belief, and identity, Over long period of type, we would develop something that unique for ourselves as individual, and mark the development of our self concept.
