The Synoptic Gospels are known with that name because of the similarity in their stories, often in the same order and with almost identical wording. It encompasses the gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke.
Catechism is the teaching of the Christian doctrine. Before the Reformation, the catechism consisted mostly on memorization. The format of question and answer was popularized by Martin Luther in 1529.
