English

A hanging indent is (1.) the reverse of a paragraph indent.

Indentation is the placement of text farther to the right or to the left in order to separate it from the rest of the lines. The typical paragraph indent is the first-line indent, which is used to indicate the beginning of a new paragraph. The hanging indent is the opposite to the paragraph indent and that is why <u>it is also called "the reverse indent"</u>. In contrast to a paragraph indent, <u>a 'hanging indent' refers to a paragraph that has all lines indented except the first one</u>.

The writings of James Baldwin and Zora Neale Hurston express different perspectives on black culture in America because _____.
bogdanovich [222]
We can use process of elimination to work out what the best answer is to this question. To fully answer it, however, it is helpful to make sure you know who each author is and what they are famous for. Both are African American writers that wrote about race and inequality.

For choice A, while they were born in different parts of the United States, that does not mean they were born in different cultures, so this is not the best choice.

For choice B, this is very true. Hurston focused mainly on the woman's role while Baldwin focused on the man's. This is a good choice for this question.

For choice C, we would need to see a more in depth excerpt or do research to fully determine if this is the best answer, but from what I know about the authors and looking over their biographies, it's safe to say that they had very similar ideas about racism in America.

For choice D, they both explore painful topics because they are exploring what racism and inequality is in general in America. Because of this, this choice is not the best answer.

Based on our elimination, choice B is the best option here.

What is an implicit message in this transcript from a news radio program?
nirvana33 [79]

The correct answer is B. The Port Harbor Bridge is a source of debate for the town of Port Harbor.

Explanation

Debate is a term that refers to a communication resource that focuses on the collation of different ideas or opinions on a certain topic. The objective of a debate is to present and argue an opinion on an issue to conclude. According to the above, the News Radio Program transcript presents the implicit message of a debate among the residents of Port Harbor, while some want to preserve the Port Harbor Bridge, others do not want to preserve it and each one presents their arguments as expressed in the next paragraph "Residents in the town of Port Harbor are divided over whether they should preserve the Port Harbor Bridge...Opponents argue that preserving the bridge will be too expensive." So, the correct answer is B. The Port Harbor Bridge is a source of debate for the town of Port Harbor.

Using Strategies and Word Patterns: The Code Book
12345 [234]

Answer:

The central idea of The Code Book is meaningful to me because I always assumed no one who wasn’t supposed to could read the information I share. It bothers me that people are out there creating and sending out viruses and Trojan horses. But it is important for me to know so that now I can try to protect myself better. From now on, I’ll be more careful about the programs and applications I use because when i get home and pay my bill over my internet banking, i have no idea where this information is going through. When i send a picture to my friend that lives across the street, that information can go to Germany and back before reaching my friend. Everything seems and feels so simple and intuitive, but it all happens in the dark and we have no control. Privacy doesn't exist in the internet for any of us in our daily routine and it is naive to think otherwise. A password doesn't protect my privacy, it gives me the illusion of privacy.
