The US wanted to remove Arbenz because he wanted to redistribute uncultivated land from large corporations and rich landowners amongst the peasants. President Truman approved the CIA's Operation PB/Success to remove Arbenz, with Guatemalan exiles. This plan failed because of the Sec. of state. The US then ordered all allies to suspend shipments for Guatemala, this caused Arbenz to order supplies from the Soviets; 400k acres of land was expropriated and owned by the United Fruit Company. President Eisenhower approved Operation PB and the CIA Lockheed P-38 sank a cargo ship containing tobacco and cotton. This caused the Guatemalan army to no longer support Arbenz, who signed his resignation.

Hope this helps!

If Franklin were alive today what symbols would he use to send the same message of unity to Americans?
svetlana [45]

Benjamin could use a symbol like a syringe to call for vaccination and full economic reactivation.

Benjamin Franklin (1706 - 1790) was an American politician who stood out for his participation in the revolution of independence of the United States establishing an ideology based on the principles of the enlightenment.

Franklin was also noted for being the editor of the Pennsylvania Gazette, where he published the first cartoon in the United States. In it he illustrated a snake broken into several pieces and in the lower part a sentence that said:

  • Join, or die

This cartoon had a great impact because it was the symbol that Franklin used during that time for citizens to join the independence cause and achieve freedom from British rule.

According to the above, if Franklin were alive today and had to use a symbol to call the citizenship unit, he could use a syringe alluding to the vaccination against the pandemic to reactivate the economy and enlarge the American economy.

What was the reasoning for the demonstration during the Chicano moratorium
Ostrovityanka [42]
The march primarily focused on gathering support from rural communities which had a high population of Mexican farmworkers. Not only would this march serve as a protest against Reagan and his discriminatory views against Chicanos, but also to garner support for La Raza Unida Party to be on the ballot.
