AT A CONSTRUCTIVE PLATE MARGIN:
1) 2 plates move apart
2) Magma forces its way up to the surface
3) As it breaks the crust it causes earthquakes
4) The magma is very hot and fluid allowing it to flow a long way before cooling
5) This results in flat/broad shield volcanoes

So overall constructive plate margins result in both volcanoes and earthquakes.
