Overview

Supporting multimodal literacy is an important aspect of education today as it encourages

students to understand the ways media shapes their world. Most, if not all texts today, can be

considered “multimodal texts,” as they combine modes such as visuals, audio, and alphabetic or

linguistic text. While it can be useful to create a distinction between multimodal texts and texts

that are primarily linguistic in order to clarify assignment goals, all texts can truly be considered

multimodal. Even an academic paper has multimodal elements such as font choice, doublespacing, margins, etc.

By teaching students multimodal analysis, you provide them access to a more complex way to

read all the texts they encounter. In their media-saturated lives, students engage with a large

number of multimodal texts per day that contain a variety of modes that work together to create

subtle methods of persuasion and often implicitly reinforce cultural stereotypes. Because

students are in the habit of passively viewing these texts, it’s important to model strategies that

will help them think critically about the messages directed at them through media.

However, while students have some experience analyzing traditional alphabetic texts, they often

have difficulty transferring what they know about analyzing these texts to analyzing multimodal

texts. And teaching students to analyze multimodal texts can be challenging as students have

grown accustomed to viewing such texts as entertainment or basic sources of information

without considering their meaning or context. Because analyzing multimodal texts is not

intuitive, students need explicit instruction in order to gain multimodal literacy. Just as we teach

students to perform a close reading or textual analysis on alphabetic texts, it’s important to

provide students with skills and models that will help them bring a critical eye to multimodal texts.

help me guys, my little brother doesnt understand this and it doesnt make sense to me, simple english so experts please help
aleksandr82 [10.1K]

We can complete the sentences if we know that pronouns substitute nouns, adjectives modify nouns, and adverbs modify verbs and adjectives.

 • I have with me four brave men and women. They have recently returned after scaling dangerous heights. It is rarely easy to show such courage.

What is a pronoun?

A pronoun is a short word used to substitute a noun in a sentence. Pronouns often answer the question "Who?". Examples of pronouns are:

 • I
 • Me
 • Them
 • She
 • It

What is an adjective?

An adjective is a word that modifies a noun, giving it a quality. Examples of adjectives are:

 • Brave
 • Strong
 • Beautiful

What is an adverb?

An adverb is a word that modifies a verb, an adjective, or another adverb. It conveys ideas concerning time, manner, place, etc. Examples of adverbs are:

 • Rarely
 • Recently
 • Slow

Having the information above in mind, we must now complete the sentences provided in the question. After reading them, we can conclude the following:

 • The speaker is talking about people who are with him or her. Since the speaker is talking in the first person, we should use the pronoun "me".
 • We can assume those men and women are "brave" (adjective) since the speaker mentions their courage.
 • The adverbs that sound good in the context are "recently" (time) and "rarely" (frequency).

Thus, the complete sentences are:

 • I have with me four brave men and women. They have recently returned after scaling dangerous heights. It is rarely easy to show such courage.

Romeo and juliet question!! please help ^^
erik [133]

Answer:

The lines that foreshadow Romeo's tragic end are found in option 4:

O God, I have an ill-diving soul!

Methinks I see thee, now thou art below,

As one dead in the bottom of a tom

Either my eyesight fails, or thou look'st pale!

Explanation:

"Romeo and Juliet" is a famous tragic play by William Shakespeare in which two young lovers die due to the rivalry between their families. At several points in the play, Shakespeare uses foreshadowing to reveal the tragic ends that await the characters. Foreshadowing is a technique in which a piece of information is given to the audience that will later unfold into something important, however trivial it looked at the beginning. The lines above are said by Juliet, and she seems to be aware of her own ability to predict. She looks at Romeo and sees a dead body, which foreshadows his end.
