The Roman Empire believed in the saying, "Offense is the best defense", therefore, in order to defend their empire, they saw to it that needed to conquer whatever threats the empire faced. It went back and forth between the British and french throughout the 17th and early 18th centuries. The British gained final control in 1713. In 1755, with war with France looming the British became concerned about the loyalty of the French population and deported many of them.
