It is a story of an elderly woman and her daughter who sit quietly on their porch at Sunset and further in the story, the writer reveals that the daughter is deaf and mute, When Mr. Shiftlet comes up walking towards their farm, the mother of the daughter views Shiftlet as ‘a tramp’.
