For instance if readers are familiar with the specific character of Caliban, then the image of rioters will contain an additional facet than it would have had with only a simple description. A comparison, it should be noted, will not be effective if readers are not familiar with that to which a comparison is being made. For instance, if the readers are not familiar with any of Shakespeare’s works, the comparison would have been ineffective.
