The details about Silenus are not important to the summary of the myth. The purpose of the myth is to teach that one needs to be careful for what one wishes. All things that seem to be great do have a negative side to them. In this myth, Midas is granted the wish for a golden touch. He thinks this is wonderful and perfect. He's very excited when he tries his gift and everything he touches turns to gold. However, he soon realizes that this wish was not well thought out. Midas is unable to eat since all the food he touches turns to gold. Because of this, he chooses to go back to Bacchus and ask him to reverse the wish.
