The answer is death or exile. Something is ruining the crops in Thebes, illness is killing the livestock and women in labor are having trouble during childbirth. Therefore, the solution is to escape the land.

The solution to all the problems Thebes faces  would be to have the person held responsible for the death of the former king , either exiled or killed.This proposed solution hides another important issue in itself as Oedipus is the person who has killed King Laius.The thing is that by the time Creon, the Oracle of Delphi gives him the message, Oedipus still has not recognized he is the one to blame.
