Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

He has 25 tons of stone with him initially. Since he needs to repay two loans, one of 6 tons of stone and another of 4 tons, then the number of tons of stones that he needs to repay as loan is 4 + 6 = 10 tons

The number that he has left is 25 - 10 = 15 tons of stone

Since the company wanted to give him 40 tons but lost 14 tons, the amount that he received is 40 - 14 = 26 tons of stone

Therefore, the number of tons of stone that he will have left to make his block out of is

15 + 26 = 41 tons of stone

-2<em>x</em> + 6<em>y</em> = -38

3<em>x</em> - 4<em>y</em> = 32

To solve by elimination, multiply the top equation by 3 and the bottom equation by 2.

3(-2<em>x</em> + 6<em>y</em> = -38) --> -6<em>x</em> + 18<em>y</em> = -114

2(3<em>x</em> - 4<em>y</em> = 32) --> 6<em>x</em> - 8<em>y</em> = 64

Add the equations.

-6<em>x </em>+ 18<em>y</em> = -114

6<em>x</em> - 8<em>y</em> = 64

+_____________

0 + 10<em>y</em> = -50

10<em>y</em> = -50

<em>y</em> = -5

Substitute -5 for y into one of the original equations to find x.

3<em>x</em> - 4<em>y</em> = 32

3<em>x</em> - 4(-5) = 32

3<em>x</em> + 20 = 32

3<em>x</em> = 12

<em>x</em> = 4

Check work by plugging the <em>x</em>- and <em>y</em>-values into both of the original equations.

-2<em>x</em> + 6<em>y</em> = -38

-2(4) + 6(-5) = -38

-8 - 30 = 38

38 = 38

3<em>x</em> - 4<em>y</em> = 32

3(4) - 4(-5) = 32

12 + 20 = 32

32 = 32

Answer:

<em>x</em> = 4 and <em>y</em> = -5; (4, -5).

7. Suppose that y varies inversely with x. Write an equation for the inverse variation,
lys-0071 [83]

Answer:

The answer is

<h2>y =  \frac{24}{x}</h2>

Step-by-step explanation:

The statement

y varies inversely with x is written as

y =  \frac{k}{x}

where k is the constant of proportionality

To find k substitute the values of x and y into the equation

From the question

y = 4

x = 6

We have

4 =  \frac{k}{6}

Cross multiply

k = 4 × 6

k = 24

So the formula for the variation is

<h2>y =  \frac{24}{x}</h2>

Hope this helps you
