Explanation : Soil is the top layer of mineral and organic material on Earth's surface. It is made up mainly of mineral particles, organic materials, air, water and living organisms all of which interact slowly.

Soil is formed from rocks. When rainwater gets collected in pores of rocks, they create cracks in the rocks and result into a number of small pieces.

The higher the number of living organisms in an area, the greater will be the rate of weathering and soil formation.  Fertile soil develops from parent material which is high in essential elements such as Ca, Mg, K, and Na.
