All of the aforementioned improvements helped to create the labor movement within American society. The labor movement traces its roots back to the late 19th and early 20th century. At this time, laborers were paid poorly, worked anywhere from 80-100 hours a week, and often worked in dangerous settings. Since there was very little government regulation, there was no such thing as minimum wage or a standard amount of working hours. With this in mind, laborers starting working together and organizing in order to fight for better working conditions.
