Throughout my life I've always heard the same thing: "You can't go against your own people, your own blood." It got so engraved

in my head that even as I sat on the witness stand, I kept thinking of those same words. "You can't go against your own . . ." Yet, my so-called familia, my so-called people, had put me in the worst position of my life. My feelings were starting to change, I began to have second thoughts. I was convinced that I was going to lie before I entered the courtroom, before I saw the woman, before I saw the little girl, but now I wasn't so sure. Which of the following describes the tone of this excerpt best?

Which sentence uses an infinitive as the object of the verb?
elena-s [515]

Answer: C. Martha's lawsuit was useful to punish the corporation for failing to pay its taxes over an eight year period.

Explanation:

In this sentence we can recognize infinitive direct-object phrase - to pay.

They can be found if we can ask a question ''what'' and in this case we are asking ''Martha's lawsuit was useful to punish what'' and then we are getting the answer which is ''to punish corporation for...'' In those kind of sentences when we are looking for the object of the verb, we must try to recognize if the infinitive phrase that we have(to punish in this case, and to pay) is making sense.

In this sentence we are having a direct object.

according to chapter 9 in fast food nation, how does manure get into the meat at slaughterhouses and hamburger grinders ?
nekit [7.7K]
<span>"The pathogens from infected cattle are spread not only in feedlots, but also at slaughterhouses and hamburger grinders. The slaughterhouse tasks most likely to contaminate meat are the removal of an animal's hide and the removal of its digestive system. The hides are now pulled off by machine; if a hide has been inadequately cleaned, chunks of dirt and manure may fall from it onto the meat. Stomachs and intestines are still pulled out of cattle by hand; if the job is not performed carefully, the contents of the digestive system may spill everywhere." From improperly cleaned animal hides, and improperly digested foods contaminated with harmful bacteria.</span>

In his first year in the White House is this and independent or dependent clause?
sveta [45]

Answer:

This is a dependent clause.

Explanation:

A dependent clause is a group of words that contains a subject and verb but does not express a complete thought. A dependent clause cannot be a sentence.

"In his first year in the White House" does not express a complete thought, making it a dependent clause.
