Yes.  It is disadvantageous to lower caste members.

Explanation:

In general, there is a general consensus of the caste system in India still existing.  There have been widespread, well-founded rumors that police and other authorities are more lenient with higher caste members and turn a blind eye to the killing of lower caste members.
