Answer:

The party was almost ruined by the rain last Saturday. When the rain approached, we all grabbed what we could.

"We better hurry," Mandy said, "or we'll get soaked."

Joe picked up the cake and said, "I've got the cake."

"You should get the sandwiches," yelled Theodore as he picked up the potato salad. We all made it under the gazebo as the first rain drops fell.

Explanation:

Any dialogue spoken by a person should be put in quotation marks.

When a quote is interrupted in the middle of a sentence, as is the first quote, the dialogue should be separated with commas. The first comma stays with the first part of the quote. After the interruption comes another comma, and then the quote continues.

If a quote is incorporated into a sentence, like the second one, you end the narration with a comma and then start the quote. It works the other way around, too, like the third one; the quote starts the sentence, and it stops with a comma before the narration picks up where the quote left off.

How does the alliteration in line 6 affect the poem's tone? It creates an elusive tone that emphasizes how foreign the moon is.
Airida [17]

Answer:

The alliteration affects the poem's tone because:

It creates a soft and tranquil tone that emphasizes the moon's quietness.

Explanation:

This is the poem we are analyzing:

All up and down the dunes,

the tall green grasses dance,

as the wind plays lively tunes

across the sandy expanse.

But the moon above is a statue,

silent and somber and still,

its reflection on the sea is a tattoo,

that we watch from upon the hill.

To answer this question, we must pay attention to both to the alliteration itself and the general message of the poem, otherwise we might be tempted to choose the option that says the moon is eerie and sinister.

Notice that, in line 6, the alliteration consists of the repetition of the phoneme /s/. This phoneme is often used to convey softness and quietness, or even a sense of soothing.

Besides that, the two stanzas of the poem contrast with each other. The first one describes a lively scene, filled with movement. The second one, on the other hand, emphasizes how quiet, how still the moon is. While the grasses dance and the wind sings, the moon remains silent.

For that reason, the best option is: It creates a soft and tranquil tone that emphasizes the moon's quietness.

Examine lines 16 through 18 and select the answer that describes the poetic technique used there.
MArishka [77]
I am not sure which poem you are referring to here, but one poetical technique is called enjambment. This occurs when a line continues to the next line without a pause. Even if there is a stanza break in between, the lines are meant to be read continuously. For example, consider these lines from a poem by William Wordsworth called Beauteous Evening: "The holy time is quiet as a Nun Breathless with adoration; the broad sun Is sinking down in its tranquility" Here, Wordsworth is not intending that you pause after you read "Nun" or "sun." He wants you to read these lines as a continuous sentence or thought. Hope this helps.
