Answer:

In Ephesians, God says "Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord."

When God said this, He meant: "Children, obey you mom and dad because it is the right thing to do. Honor them, this is the first commandment with promise. And, fathers, do not punish them simply because you are angry: instead, raise them the way God wants them to be raised."

The role of children: Obey and honor your parents.

The role of parents: Raise your children the way God wants them raised; punish them, not out of anger, but out of love.

Children are to respect and obey their parents, but it's not so that the parents can be respected or honored but because of that way, the children's lives will blessed (v3). If children are punished because their parents demanded respect and the child didn't give it to them, there is a possibility the child will punish others if they do not respect him/her.

Parents are supposed to train their children to the way they should go, and they shouldn't discourage them or be harsh with them or otherwise, their spirit can be crushed. Not saying that discipline shouldn't be a thing, but parents need to be encouraging and loving while at the same time, communicate to the child and correct him/her if the child had done something wrong

hope this helped :)
