The European began to take interest in goods from Asia because of the crusades.

The crusade helped European to gain interest in goods and new products from Asia that were new to them. Crusades introduced spices, silk, carpets, textiles, also foods like fruits, sherbet, sugar, rice, and coffee. Merchants from Genoa and Venice settle in Crete and Cyprus where they brought goods from Muslim merchants and sold these goods in Europe. European began to take an interest in Asia as they began to come across silk and spices from Asia, which they considered as a luxury.
