Answer:

y is directly proportional to x. If y equals 30 when x is equal to 6, find the value of x when y is 45. So let's just take this each statement at a time. y is directly proportional to x. That's literally just saying that y is equal to some constant times x. This statement can literally be translated to y is equal to some constant times x. y is directly proportional to x. Now, they tell us, if y is 30 when x is 6-- and we have this constant of proportionality-- this second statement right over here allows us to solve for this constant. When x is 6, they tell us y is 30 so we can figure out what this constant is. We can divide both sides by 6 and we get this left-hand side is 5-- 30 divided by 6 is 5. 5 is equal to k or k is equal to 5. So the second sentence tells us, this gives us the information that y is not just k times x, it tells us that y is equal to 5 times x. y is 30 when x is 6. And then finally, they say, find the value of x when y is 45. So when y is 45 is equal to-- so we're just putting in 45 for y-- 45 is equal to 5x. Divide both sides by 5 to solve for x. We get 45 over 5 is 9, and 5x divided by 5 is just x. So x is equal to 9 when y is 45.

Answer:

  not tangent

Step-by-step explanation:

The triangle has side lengths 5, 12, 14. You can compute the "form factor" for the triangle:

  a^2 +b^2 -c^2 . . . . . . . . where 'c' is the longest side

  = 5^2 +12^2 -14^2

  = 25 +144 -196 = -27

The negative value tells you this triangle is obtuse. If AB were a tangent, it would be perpendicular to the radius—the triangle would be a right triangle.

If you compare this calculation to the Pythagorean theorem, you see that the length AB is longer than the length √(25+144) = 13 that is necessary for the triangle to be a right triangle. That means the angle at A is greater than 90°.

__

<em>Additional comment</em>

This "form factor" calculation is part of the calculation you would do using the Law of Cosines to determine the largest angle. The sign of the "form factor" tells you the sign of the cosine of the angle. Angles whose cosine is negative are greater than 90°. A positive "form factor" indicates an acute triangle.

I find computing the "form factor" in this way makes interpretation of the result fairly easy. For me, it eliminates the confusion I had when the numbers of the Pythagorean theorem didn't add up. For me, it was too much work to figure whether the triangle was acute or obtuse, and I often got it wrong.

For those interested, the angle measure is arccos((a^2+b^2-c^2)/(2ab)). Here, that's arccos(-27/(2·5·12)) ≈ 103.003°.

4. Tom rides his bike a total of 6 14 miles to work over the course of 5 days.
irina [24]

6 14 miles in 5 days.

In 1 day Tom rides 6 14/5 = 1 228 miles

1 week has 7 days

5 weeks have 35 days

1 day Tom rides 1 228 miles

35 days Tom rides for 1 228 * 35 = 42 98miles.

Which function below has the smallest slope?. A Graph with a line going through -5 on the Y Axis and Postive 2 and a half on the
Allushta [10]
<span>The three equations can be written as 1) y = 2x - 5 ; 2) y = 2x - 3 and ;3) y = 2x + 5. Now, the slope can be found by slop intercept form of linear equation i.e. y = mx+b where m is the slope. From the above equations, we can see that all the the three have the same slope i.e. m = 2.</span>

A linear function has the same y-intercept as x + 4y = 12 and its graph contains the point (9,5). Find the slope of the linear f
ziro4ka [17]

The answer is A: a slope of 2/9

First you need to change find the y-intercept by converting the standard form equation to slope-intercept form. The goal is to isolate y:

x + 4y = 12

x + 4y - x = 12 - x

4y = 12 - x

4y / 4 = 12/4 - x

y = 3 - x

Change so that the slope is before the intercept:

y = -x + 3

Now we know that the y-intercept is 3.

Use the slope equation, which is y2 - y1/x2 - x1, is find the slope:

5 - 3/9 - 0 = 2/9

So, the slope is 2/9!
